Oceanside 70.3 http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/oceanside-703/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/oceanside-703/#comments Tue, 25 Mar 2008 18:59:05 +0000 Regina http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/oceanside-703/ It’s this Saturday.  My first half-ironman.  I’ve been training and just really hope the weather is somewhere in the low 70 degrees with no rain.  This race has pretty much taken up most of my focus for the past 2 months and I just started a new job.  I am tired all the time and consistently can’t do “fun” things because I have to workout, or should at least attempt to.  I really just want it to be over with.

My fuel will consist of pita pockets with ham and purple Hawaiian sweet potatos, chocolate flavored Ensure Plus, Clif bar shotblocks, Gatorade, Powerade, maybe some Gel.  It sounds like a lot of random stuff, but the most important thing for this race is having enough energy to finish it.  You can want to finish, but if you haven’t been eating, or eat the wrong thing, you can fall ill, or die.  No joke.

Look out for the race results.

Carpooling http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/carpooling/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/carpooling/#comments Tue, 25 Mar 2008 18:44:51 +0000 Regina http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/carpooling/ I am desperately trying to be hip and go green to save the earth.   I got a new job in Pasadena and decided that I would find a carpool.  The trip is about 50 miles one way.  I figured by carpooling with at least one person, I could save my car and myself 1000 miles of driving per month and about $100 in gas.  Also, my job has a program where you get paid to carpool because they don’t have to pay for your parking.  So I tried it out.

I posted an ad on rideshare.info and another site that I can’t remember the name of right now.  easyrideshare operates a lot like a dating site.  You put in your information and how far you are willing to travel and when you need to go to work and come home.  The system then matches you to people that are compatible to your driving habits.   The one downside is that they don’t match you to people that are compatible with your personality.

I tried the carpool and had a reasonably good driving buddy.  The downside was that his work hours involved us driving the 8-5 commute.  The other downside was that he has a hybrid and carpool stickers which meant he didn’t NEED to carpool to get favorable treatment on California’s highways.  The guy was nice and chatty.  I took the necessary safety precautions and emailed his work contact info to my family.  I let him drive the first day.  He dropped me off at work and mentioned that the carpool buddy he dumped recently also worked in my building.  The reason for the dump was the annoying factor.  The guy was annoying. He had a habit of wanting to go to work earlier and would show up at the efllow carpooler’s house about 20 minutes early.  He would then sit around outside and once even knocked on the door, much to the dismay of the fellow carpooler and his wife.  I suggested we try carpooling with him so we would only have to drive once every three days.  My buddy made the necessary calls and we had a three person carpool by the next day.

The three person carpool wasn’t bad. We did that for two days and then my original carpool buddy with the hybrid had to go to class.  I traveled with the other guy alone.  By the return trip, I wanted to throw myself out the window on the freeway.  He was so annoying and talked too much. Talking too much isn’t normally a problem for me as long as the person let’s you participate.  This guy did not.  He also talked cr*p about people that talked too much and pretty much made racist comments the entire way home.  Eventually he came to road rage as well.  The strangest part and perhaps the last straw was the fact that he chose to take a freeway with no carpool lane home at 5pm, which meant I was going to be trapped in a car with him for a longer period of time.

The next day we were traveling on our own and I sent the email to him saying that I was going to leave early on Friday.  Meaning, no carpool.  I didn’t call him back after that, and he didn’t call me. I believe it was a mutual break up.    Hybrid guy and me joked that the annoying guy might not actually work out here and that he just wanted to carpool so he would have someone to talk at and annoy.  I have not seen him around my building since the last time we drove together and no one ever picked him up at his house.  He always drove to our houses.

So you are either bored of reading this, or you are wondering what happened to hybrid guy.  He got put on a project… that’s what he said at least.  I can’t help but wonder if he dumped me too.  I don’t think I was annoying, but I tend to think good things about myself. ;-)

The one thing I learned is that carpooling is nice, if you like the people you drive with.  Otherwise it is a nightmare.  I am trying to be environmentally friendly in other ways since this particular method is not working for me.  Now, I leave for work at 6am, or at 9:20am and don’t sit in traffic in a stranger’s car.  I prefer to travel alone most of the time.  I can fart, belch and talk on the phone.  I can also sing and don’t have to be responsible for anyone else’s safety in my car.

Business Model http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/business-model/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/business-model/#comments Tue, 25 Mar 2008 16:45:38 +0000 Regina http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/business-model/ So I just came up with the best idea on earth.  A business where people give you money for nothing. Nothing at all.  Every morning when I go to work, I see a man standing at the light at the end of the freeway off-ramp.  He asks for money and people give it to him.  The location seems to be a good one because he is always there.  According to my ex-carpool buddies, he has been there for years.  I think one can safely assume that he is making money by standing in that spot, or he would have looked for a new spot by now.  Every day, he get something for nothing.  The work is quite flexible.  He makes his own hours, can work from anywhere in the world, requires no office space or telecommunications.  The dress code is whatever he wants it to be and the best part is that he doesn’t even have to shower before going to work.  WIth respect to a person who works a corporate 9 to 5 job, he really doesn’t have to do much to get paid.

So my quest begins… how do I get paid to do nothing?

Numero Uno http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/numero-uno/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/numero-uno/#comments Wed, 13 Feb 2008 09:46:40 +0000 Humphrey http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/numero-uno/ Hi everyone!

This is my first blog post.  My mommy is letting me write now that I am 6 years old.  This arrangement is conditional.  She told me I better stay away from sites that have XXX in the URL.   If I don’t, I will have my privileges revoked.

Hehe! Little does she know, I don’t give a rats ass about naked people.  I’m more interesting in seeing intact bitches… Boy do I love the world wide web.

Now for my post…

Uno the Beagle (Ch K-Run’s Park Me In First) won the Westminster dog show last night.  I am slightly annoyed because Beagles are the most annoying dogs in the world.  They run around in circles barking…”owowowowowowowow”  I might have liked him better if he was a her and her name was Una.  http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2008/results/bis/

I am going to work on my stance and start taking some vitamins so I can be in the dog show next year.  I will have to be surgically enhanced before then, and am a little short on cash.  My mom told me to get a job and I think I might just do that.  I will post my resume later on this week.

You might be wondering what a gorgeous dog like me would want to change about myself… Well I’ll tell you my secret.  I am missing some of my man parts.  I behave better because of this, and am not contributing to dog overpopulation or mass euthanasia in the dog shelters, but I can’t be in the show without all my man parts.  Since they don’t actually require you to show that your man parts work in the show, you only have to appear to have them…. I am going to get some testicle implants. Let’s hope it works.

Ian Tucker Kiely http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/ian-tucker-kiely/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/ian-tucker-kiely/#comments Wed, 23 Jan 2008 21:49:26 +0000 Regina http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/ian-tucker-kiely/ My friend Laura had a baby yesterday.  I am very excited about it, probably more than I should be.  She is my first close friend to have a baby and that is a big deal to me.  I waited by my email for messages “Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile”  over the entire weekend and the beginning of this week.  I posted on facebook walls to spread the news.

He is the cutest little thing, with his Mom’s nose and the rest is TBD.  He put up quite a fight coming into this world.  She was in labor for upwards of 30 hours, almost had to have  a C-section and he arrived a bit late.  I think the pain might have been unbearable and there wasn’t much sleep.  I might get to meet him tomorrow and I  can’t wait.

Duffy the dog http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/duffy-the-dog/ http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/duffy-the-dog/#comments Wed, 23 Jan 2008 21:27:51 +0000 Regina http://humphreyisnot4sale.com/blog/duffy-the-dog/ Today I decided to run some errands in the pouring rain.  I was bored to death.  On my way to the swim shop, I saw a dog run across the road.  He seemed oblivious to the traffic.  I made a U-turn, pulled to the side of the road, and got out of my car.  I squatted and called to the dog and help my arms out… He ran to me with his tail wagging.  I was happy to see he had a collar with a tag on.  His name was Duffy and his number was local.  I called his owners and left a message.  A nice woman greeted me on the answering machine and I left my message.  I told her I would be taking him in my car around town and to call me when she got the message.  Duffy was a golden retriever mix, older gentleman with a white face.  He was well-behaved, but didn’t want to jump into the back of my truck.  I led him to the side and he seemed more willing to enter from there.  I jumped in my car and begged him to follow… then I jumped out the back and shut him in.  He rode in the car well, like he knew the drill.  We went to Competitive Aquatic Supply.  I left him in the car and when I returned the windows were fogged and the car smelled like a wet dog.  Since he did so well there, I decided to finish my errands and drive to the bike shop.  I ran in and grabbed the bike trainer for Erik and went back to my car.  Duffy sniffed at me a bit and laid back in his spot. Then we stopped off at the Larson’s house to get a rug for the bike trainer.  Duffy said hello to Jeff and we were off to Erik’s house.

I didn’t want to take him to my house because there are already two dogs there and I didn’t know if he was friendly, and I know the other two are not always friendly.  I crossed my fingers and prayed that Duffy’s owner would return home from work soon and we could both go to our respective homes.  Duffy paced and ran around the house, drank some water, watched me go to the bathroom, and inspected the bedroom, office and backyard.  He was nervous, finally.  I thought he was a bit too comfortable riding in a stranger’s car.  When we got to the strange house, he realized this was not a joy ride.  I put the trainer together while Duffy paced.  My phone rang.  It was a woman who introduced herself as “Duffy’s Mom.”  I gave her directions to the house and told Duffy his momma was coming to get him.  He laid down in front of the door to wait.  There was a knock at the door and outside the door was a nice woman named Patti.  She was happy to see Duffy and said she checked the back gate and it was locked.  She couldn’t figure out how he escaped, but knew he probably didn’t like being out in the rain.  Her commute home was terrible and the day only became worse when she realized her friend was gone.  She told me he likes to go to the park near their house, and I mentioned that he was going in the opposite direction of the park,  probably looking for a new adventure.  Patti thanked me and was concerned that Duffy messed up my car etc… I told her not to worry.  My dogs are bigger pigs than Duffy could ever be.  They really are.  I told her that Duffy was well-behaved and went with me on my errands.  It really was a pleasure to find him, and truth be told, if no one came to claim him, I would have kept him, even though my mom said “NO MORE DOGS!!!”
